One dead as church building collapses on worshipers at Swedru

Church service was ongoing at the Spoken Ministry International Church and two other congregations when the church buildings collapsed on them at about 10 am.

One person is reported dead with about 30 people injured at Agona Swedru in the Central Region after some church buildings collapsed on them during service on Sunday (March 4, 2018).

The other 30 who were injured have been hospitalized at Swedru Government Hospital.

According to Accra-based Oman FM, some of the victims have been transferred to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the Agona West Municipal Disaster Control Officer Joseph Kojo Appiah said over 600 people have been displaced in Swedru and surrounding villages.

The heavy downpour also affected the Agona Swedru Circuit Court.

The roof of the court has been ripped off.

Mr Appiah explained that they are still assessing the extent of damage and would make their report available when they are done.
